FOREWORD
"With beauty and grace, as swift as can be, watch it flying through the air..."
Supercar is significant in that it was the first AP Films series to be funded by Lew Grade of ATV and ITC fame. With Grade's backing, AP Films was able to expand their crew and continue to perfect their craft. Thanks to his connections, the series was also distributed to the all important American television market via syndication. A big hit on both sides of the pond, the exciting, technology-driven action-adventure stories of Supercar set a template for other Supermarionation series to follow.
FORMAT
The adventures of a fearless test-pilot and his friends with their amazing multi-terrain vehicle, Supercar.
SUPERCAR
Multi-terrain vehicle capable of travelling on land, in and under the sea, in the air and in space. Equipped with Clear-Vu, a device that allows the pilot to see clearly in all weather conditions. Has retractable wings.
BLACK ROCK LABORATORY
Top-secret base of Supercar and the team in the Nevada desert. Is equipped with living-quarters and a fully-fledged laboratory which includes video-communication devices and, most conveniently, roof doors to allow Supercar to arrive and depart.
MIKE MERCURY
Voice: Graydon Gould
Chisel-featured, heroic test-pilot with very well developed nose. Quick witted, all-round good guy. Birthday: November 22nd.
DOCTOR HORATIO BEAKER
Voice: David Graham
The archetypal scatter-brained boffin from England, with a pronounced hesitant speech pattern. Interested in a wide range of things from art and film-making to building supersonic aircraft. Stubborn, intelligent, and unwittingly the subject of much humour.
PROFESSOR RUDOLPH POPKISS
Voice: George Murcell (Series 1), Cyril Shaps (Series 2)
Kind Austrian scientist who developed Supercar with Doctor Beaker. Enjoys honing his culinary skills; unlike Beaker, Popkiss is happy making toast by using less than 10,000 volts.
JIMMY GIBSON
Voice: Sylvia Thamm/Anderson
Red-haired, 10-year-old younger brother of Bill Gibson. Lives every child’s dream by living at a secret lab, avoiding school.
MITCH
Eeeks: David Graham
Mischievous monkey and companion of Jimmy Gibson.
MASTERSPY
Voice: George Murcell, Cyril Shaps (Series 2)
Morbidly obese, eastern-European villain with an array of ill-conceived dastardly plans. An expert at disguise (an eye-patch and fez does the trick!). Ultimate plan is to own Supercar.
ZARIN
Voice: David Graham
A bumbling, cowardly sidekick to Masterspy.
HARPER
Voice: George Murcell
Odious ex-employee of JFP Electronics who attempts to steal top secret electronic circuits for Supercar. Later carries out other vicious plans with his accomplice, Judd.
JUDD
Voice: David Graham
Chain-smoking expert safe-cracker and side-kick to Harper.
FELICITY FARNSWORTH
Voice: Sylvia Thamm
Doctor Beaker’s ‘jolly-hocky-sticks’ cousin. Bears an uncanny resemblance to Beaker, except she has more hair and lipstick.
BILL GIBSON
Voice: David Graham
Older brother of Jimmy. A man of many talents that seems unable to hold down a job for long. Abandons his brother with a group of strangers at the first opportunity.
