Fireball XL5 is the final show in the first stage of Supermarionation. It's the last of the series to be made in black & white, and the final production at the comparatively small Ipswich Road studio. However, in many ways it's also the first of the golden age of Supermarionation with its more action-oriented scripts and more sophisticated filming style. More advanced than what came before, more primitive than what was to follow, Fireball was a stand-out artistic achievement for the time.
